The DASYA Lab is our hands-on laboratory for research and education. Most of what happens here is connected to the course Computing & Data in Extreme Environments, where staff and students build systems that collect and process data in places where computing is hard, all the way from sensors on the ground to satellites in space.
In the lab, you will find embedded devices and a large library of sensors for air quality, water, acoustics, and environmental research. We build wireless networks with Wi-Fi, MQTT, and LoRaWAN, including our own gateways on The Things Network, and we develop data stacks, edge computing, and TinyML applications that run on small devices. Our projects even reach space: students work on Space IoT with satellites and high-altitude balloons, and can join DISCOSAT, ITU’s student satellite program, which has already launched two satellites.
The lab is also used for experiments, demonstrators, student projects, and teaching across the group. For an overview of our equipment, see lab technology.
We are generally around, with guaranteed presence on Tuesdays and Fridays, 10–16. At other times, please email us to make an appointment.
